It's time to come together!
Fracois Pyrad de Laval wrote in the 17th century:"Everyone from the Cape of Good Hope to China, man and woman, is clothed from head to foot in the product of Indian looms"
Though the creators are unspecified, the motifs, techniques and styles are incredibly diverse in the Indian sub-continent. Woven, embroidered, appliqued, brocaded, block-printed, painted, patch-worked, tie-dyed, they are all an integral part of our lifestyles, culture and economy. Kaivela began its journey out of great appreciation for artisanal skills and techniques and also by knowing the potential of these hand-crafted textiles for creating apparels for urban market. Our partnership with artisan communities and ethical production centers are very important to us and for the very same reason, we decided to connect with various local weaving societies and fair trade organizations for our design processes.
Our Fabric partner
Meppayil Weavers Co-operative Society, Kerala
A group of people in Meppayil established Meppayil Weavers' Co-Operative Society (MEPTEX) in the year 1959. Making of genuine hand-woven clothes without even the slightest involvement of automation is being strictly followed by dyeing the yarns in special vat dyes, thereby ensuring high quality color-fast fabrics.

Embroidery is a staple part of our designs. Choosing to create methods done by hand help us keep our green promise to lessen our negative impact on our planet. Hand embroidery is a technique that is naturally slow. It’s a repetitive process that requires you to be present but can also take you to a place of connection with your body, your materials, and your environment.
